It’s the start of a new week. The news machine rolls on. Some of it is a continuation of last week. Some of it is actually “fresh.”
Coronavirus
Let’s start there. Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca says its late-stage trials of a Coronavirus vaccine are very effective. 70% effective on average. Not the 95% effectiveness of Pfizer and Moderna, but there is an important difference to consider. While Pfizer and Modena’s vaccines need ultra cold refrigeration, AstraZeneca’s does not. That should make it easier to distribute.
So, we now have three promising vaccines in the pipeline. They can’t get here soon enough.
Covid numbers are spiking everywhere. And it’s likely to get worse. Why? According to CNN, a new Gallup poll shows Americans are less likely to shelter in place to stop the spread of Covid-19—just 49%. That’s down from the 67% who said they would stay put in the early days of the pandemic.
I get it. We’re tired of this. We’re over it. Still, we have to be vigilant, wear a mask, and be socially distanced. This will end. I mean, 2020 is a write off year anyway, right?
Election 2020
To politics. It continues…the Trump team continues to fight the election results. The Biden team continues to plan its new administration. In fact, Reuters is reporting that the President-elect will start announcing cabinet appointees on Tuesday.
Thanksgiving Holiday
I’ve been wondering how New York City would handle its famous store windows this holiday season. We are getting a taste. NBC New York says Macy’s Herald Square windows will be a tribute to New York.
It’s a big Thank You to “first responders, essential workers, marchers for equality, and New Yorkers who showed their grit, good humor and hopeful spirit during a tumultuous year.”
That’s exactly what I expected. It will be interesting to see what the other stores do, too.
So, that’s where I am. It’s Thanksgiving week. A short week for some; a busy one for others. Be safe everybody.
