I didn’t post anything on Friday. I couldn’t find anything to write about. I tried. The best I could come up with was a story called, “Where’s my hundred dollars?” That was my snarky attempt at asking why I didn’t get money for getting a Covid vaccine back in March.
Recently, President Biden proposed giving a hundred dollars to anyone who now will get the vaccine. I’ve decided that if that’s what it will take, then let’s do it. Give them the money.
But it just goes to show you where we are right now. Or rather, where we’ve been. It seems Covid is getting worse each week. It’s everywhere. In some ways, almost as bad as it was at its peak.
Florida is especially bad. From the Associated Press: Florida had 21,683 new cases of Covid on Saturday. That’s the highest number since the start of the pandemic. The state now accounts for one-fifth of all new cases in the U.S.
10,207 people are in the hospital. That’s another record broken.
Looking back, it was naive to think it was over. With so many refusing to get the vaccine, why would it be?
For his part, Dr. Fauci says he does not see lockdowns happening again. With that said, he told ABC News that, “things will get worse.”
Researchers at the University of South Florida believe herd immunity is on the horizon. Dr. Tom Unnasch told my TV station, Fox 13, that this should be the final wave because most people will be vaccinated or infected.
“We’re getting to a point where the virus is just not going to have enough people to infect that it’s going to be able to maintain itself anymore.”
I guess that’s a good thing?
So, that’s where I start the week. A mask in my pocket for crowded spaces. Avoiding people again.
It’s a new week. The news is the same. And I still want my hundred dollars.
