Okay, I promised I would try and find a little good news. I think I did.
It has to do with Covid hospitalizations in Florida. The numbers are trending down. From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there were 568 fewer Covid cases in Florida hospitals on Tuesday than there were on Monday.
I’m taking this as good news and hoping it’s part of a new trend.
Doctors believe these lower numbers have a lot to do with higher vaccination rates and antibody treatments.
Hospitals believe in the numbers. Advent Health is scheduling elective surgeries again.
The trend continues outside of Florida too. The World Health Organization says it is seeing the first major drop in infections in more than two months.
Maybe we have turned the corner.
Let’s talk about this NASA SpaceX all civilian launch. If all goes well, four SpaceX tourists will go into space tonight.
It’s a three day mission in a fully automated Dragon capsule.
So much to love about this story. From NBC News… Billionaire Jared Isaacman paid for the trip. He made his money with a payment processing company.
Isaacman said in a pre-flight briefing, “From the start of this mission, I’ve been very aware of how fortunate we are to be part of this history SpaceX is creating right now.”
With Isaacman, on the mission, 29 year old Hayley Arceneaux. She is a bone cancer survivor and now a physician’s assistant at St. Jude’s Research Hospital. She was treated at St. Jude’s as a child. Now, she’s the youngest American to go into space and the first with a prosthesis.
Isaacman is turning all this into a fundraising effort for St. Jude’s. Somewhere, that hospital’s founder, Danny Thomas, is smiling.
And finally, television. I had a chance to interview Jay Leno. His new show, “You Bet Your Life” has just premiered on our TV station. It’s good. It’s funny.
One of the things Jay stressed about the show, “No politics, just fun.” He went on to say, “The news is so depressing.”
Jay Leno is right. The news is depressing. There are good stories out there, though. I know it because I’ve been chasing them for a long time. Chasing the bad news, too.
For just a minute, it’s nice to report some good news. I think I feel better about things.
