What day is it? Image of calendar

There was a moment this past week that I had a full-on panic attack. I had no idea what day it was. I was sending a work email about something for the next day when I realized that I didn’t know what day it was—let alone what tomorrow was. I was lost.

I checked my printed calendar (I’m old school and still use one of those). It didn’t help. It all looked the same. So, I checked my iPhone calendar. No help either. Finally, I resorted to Google. “What day is it?” I asked. Turns out it was Tuesday. I really thought it was Thursday.

That’s where we are.

Stuck in the movie “Groundhog Day.” Everything is just repeating. And… I’m still working. Yes, working from home, but still going to work everyday in our family room.

The news I read on TV every morning isn’t changing much. “Coronavirus” day in and day out. The number of sick people. The number of deaths. The hope for a cure. The tanking economy. That’s about it. Yes, there are the positive stories. The shoutouts to first responders. The support and love they are receiving.

And… thank God for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. Just having them in Tampa is a great diversion. When Tom works out in a city park that is closed because of Coronavirus, and a city worker tells him to leave (I would have let him stay). Then, Tom walks into somebody’s home by accident. Quick, somebody call TMZ. Tom Brady went into the wrong house! (I choose to believe Tom just wants to get to know us all individually. Tom, my door is always open for you.)

As for Gronk… well, he’s just Gronk. Doesn’t really have to do anything, but show up.

I think we are all feeling a little lost right now.  I found a New York Times piece during my panic of being lost on what day it was.  “What Day Is It?  You’re Not the Only One Asking.”  A TV station in Cleveland has even created a segment during their morning show… “What Day Is It?”

The article talks about how we have had such drastic changes to our routines that time feels distorted.  When Tom Hanks hosted Saturday Night Live from his home recently, he said, “There’s no such thing as Saturdays anymore.  It’s just everyday is ‘today.'”

I get it.  Everything feels so off.  I’m not the only one asking what day it is.  Searches have spiked.

And when this does all end, what will it be like going back to a normal routine?  Monday to Friday.  The five day grind when you push to the weekend.  Then, on Sunday night, you start dreading Monday morning.  Lord, I miss it!

I started all this by asking, what day is it?  It’s funny. I didn’t know if it was Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Somehow, I knew when it was Friday. Coronavirus may have destroyed much of my internal clock.  Not all of it.  I still know when the weekend is here!

  1. Thank God!!! At least if I am actually losing my mind, I’m in good company. Thank you for showing up every day!
