election 2020

It’s all about the election and a Coronavirus warning.

Election 2020

From the Washington Post: “Who’s Left to Vote?” More than 98 million Americans have already cast their ballots. That’s 70% of the turnout from four years ago.

But… in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, just 40% of its 2016 levels have voted. That’s why Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been hitting Pennsylvania hard these last few days.

Here’s something to think about too. About 30 million mail-in ballots have still not been returned. More than a million of those in Florida. Will voters take them to the polls today?

When will we know? If this thing is close, we might not know for a few days. Florida has already started counting its early votes. Some other states don’t do it that way.

Coronavirus

Coronavirus concerns from Dr. Birx. From the New York Times: “We are entering the most concerning and most deadly phase of this pandemic.” That is from a private memo to White House officials. Dr. Birx also writes, “This is not about lockdowns — It hasn’t been about lockdowns since March or April. It’s about an aggressive balanced approach that is not being implemented.”

The daily caseload is breaking records. We’ve got a long way to go here.

That’s where I am today. You might be wondering how a morning news anchor handles Election Day. First of all, this my Super Bowl. It all comes down to today. I’ll leave work today and go home and sleep. Sleep as long as I can. Wake up in time to see the Florida polls close at 7PM. Then, who knows? Four years ago, I never went to bed. I’m older now. A lot older. But… it is the big game to me. Perhaps, the biggest.

A long night ahead.
