Every now and then, I start to wonder if we are going to get through this. I’m not talking Covid this time.

I’m talking climate change.

This new report from the United Nations is one more piece of evidence that the planet is messed up.

U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres called the findings “a code red for humanity.”

The report is called the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The thing is huge. 4,000 pages. 234 authors.

It’s almost too much to take on. Fortunately, the Washington Post did, and it broke down the report into five key excerpts. None of the findings is good.

Among the takeaways….”it is unequivocal that human influence has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land.”

Unequivocal. That’s a strong word. It means “leaving no doubt.” No doubt that we have helped this situation along. How much? I say a lot. I have friends that say a little. They used to say none.

We can argue all day how much humans have contributed to this.

No doubt, though, it’s happening. I guess the question now is are we willing to do what it will take to fix it? Is it even fixable? Have we waited too long to try?

Heat. Fires. Rising sea levels. Stronger hurricanes. It’s everywhere. The report says climate change will be felt in every corner of the world.

At the end of the day, and I do mean the end, the planet is going to take care of itself. Earth might just decide to blow off some steam.

Sooner or later, it’s going to happen. A disaster movie in real life.

We’ve been warned. This United Nations report is eye opening.

“Code red for humanity.”
