We start this new week looking at the continuing war in Ukraine. Things are changing. Russia is rethinking its strategy. Maybe because the original strategy was not working.

How bad is it going for Russia? British intelligence reports that the country has suffered so many casualties that discharged veterans are being called up to join the fighting. As bad as it sounds, Russia isn’t done. Nowhere near.

Fox News reports that Russian vehicles have been seen moving into eastern Ukraine. A notorious Russian general is taking over.

The Associated Press reports that General Alexander Dvorniko will take over this next phase of battle with Ukraine. His nickname is “Butcher of Syria” for his targeting of civilians there.

Appearing on “60 Minutes,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed frustration with Western allies. “I don’t have any more lives to give. I don’t have any more emotions. I’m no longer interested in their diplomacy that leads to the destruction of my country.”

The Chancellor of Austria is meeting with Vladimir Putin today. Maybe he can talk some sense into him to end this.

Over the weekend, a story in the Washington Post really got to me. It was about an 11 year old Ukrainian boy who had to flee his country with his family. Andrii Sidorov carried just a suitcase with essential items. What he couldn’t carry with him… his prized Lego collection.

The family ended up in Ireland. Andrii’s father said his son felt lost without his Legos. He made a post on Facebook. “Help me please. We need any Lego, any size and color in any quantity.”

I think you know where this story is headed. Within 24 hours, Legos started pouring in. From all over the world, Legos. Andrii has more than ever before.

You know what this tells me? There are still good people in the world. I spend hours on TV every week talking about all the bad people doing terrible things. There are plenty of them.

But… there are more good people than bad ones. Lots more. Plenty of good people to send Legos to a Ukrainian boy forced from his country by a few bad people.

It’s Monday. I need that story to push me on. Gives me hope.
