I wasn’t going to write a blog post today, but the breaking news caused me to rethink that. As I write this, there is great concern about the health of Queen Elizabeth.
I decided the best place to go for the latest is the BBC.
Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that the Queen is under medical supervision for her health. The statement says, “the Queen remains comfortable at Balmoral.”
The BBC reports that many members of the Royal Family have traveled to Balmoral in Scotland. It is said to be the Queen’s favorite residence.
Prince Charles and Camilla are there. Prince William is on the way. Harry and Meghan are headed there as well.
New Prime Minister Liz Truss says, “the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news.”
Just how sick is the 96-year-old Queen? Sick enough that the palace released information about her health.
Robert Hardman is a royal author. He tells the BBC that statements about the Queen’s health are unusual. “The palace doesn’t normally issue bulletins on the Queen’s health unless it’s significant.”
“The last time a statement, as it were, came out of the blue to let us know earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with Covid,” Hardman says.
“But on the whole, the view is if she’s not undergoing some sort of hospital medical procedure then these are private matters… so clearly the fact that the Palace has seen fit to put out a statement is grounds for concern.”
All this comes days after photos taken of the Queen caused concern. It showed part of her hand appearing purple.
She was overseeing the transition of power from Boris Johnson to Liz Truss. It apparently took a lot out of her. She canceled all her meetings yesterday.
There will be more news on this as the day goes on.
What struck me is that she was still doing her royal duties this week when the old Prime Minister left office and the new one took over. Still doing what she does.
On the throne, 70 years. Still Queen. I just talked to my very English friend, Vanessa. She called her, “my Queen.” Let’s just hope this is just a bump and she stays Vanessa’s Queen awhile longer.
