I tried, I really tried to find something else to write today. With that said, the entire first block of my 6AM newscast this morning was about Coronavirus. Okay, there was one story about Governor Cuomo refusing to resign over his sexual harassment scandal. Also, a story about California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recall vote that’s in a dead heat.

Besides that, it’s all Covid, all the time.

President Biden is asking governors to help. “I say to these governors, please help. But if you are not going to help, at least get out of the way. The people are trying to do the right thing.”

Fox News is reporting that message was meant for two governors in specific… Texas’ Greg Abbott and Florida’s Ron DeSantis.

For his part, Governor Ron DeSantis said, “We’re not shutting down. We’re gonna have schools open. We’re protecting every Floridian’s job in this state. We’re protecting people’s small businesses. These interventions have failed.”

DeSantis’ office also accused the White House of playing politics with the pandemic.

It has become political. It’s also taking a toll on the governor’s approval numbers. It’s at 43. St. Pete Polls reports that Governor DeSantis faces a tough re-election battle from both his Democratic challengers, Charlie Crist and Nikki Fried.

The same poll asked if students should be required to wear masks at school. 62 percent say yes. It should be interesting to see how all this plays as kids go back to school next week.

Vaccine hesitancy. Besides the rising cases, something else might help. The New York Times is reporting that the F.D.A is close to giving the Pfizer vaccine full approval. It only has emergency approval now. Maybe that will cause some of those questioning the vaccine’s safety to get it. It could also lead to more mandates, too.

It’s all a bit much. I feel as though we are going backwards with this. Backwards, quickly. Public Covid testing sites are reopening. Everyone wants to know if they have it. More than fifty thousand new cases in Florida between Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Okay, by now we are all asking is there anything else to talk about? Not really.

New York City just announced a vaccine mandate for those entering restaurants and gyms.

The Met Gala is back on this year, but with some big changes.

A spokesperson told The Daily Beast: “Currently, all attendees at The Met Gala on September 13 must provide proof of full vaccination and will also be expected to wear masks indoors except when eating or drinking. We will update these guidelines as needed.”

So, that’s where we are. All Covid, all the time. My mission: Find something else to write about. Wish me luck.

  1. I wear a mask even though I’m vaccinated. If my children were still in school, I’d home school them. Why take chances???
