Juneteenth

I’m heading into the weekend feeling hopeful about things.

Let’s start with the Juneteenth Holiday. Officially called Juneteenth National Independence Day. President Biden signed it into law. It’s now a national holiday. Finally.

Juneteenth. The day marking the emancipation of all slaves after the Civil War.

Reading from the Washington Post, President Biden said, “Great nations don’t ignore their most painful moments. They embrace them. Great nations don’t walk away. We come to terms with mistakes we made. And remembering those moments, we begin to heal and grow stronger.”

On to the Supreme Court. A big ruling. Obamacare lives to fight another day. The Affordable Care Act survives its third round in the Supreme Court.

The New York Times reports that Obamacare has higher than ever public support. Enrollment is at a record high. Repeal is no longer a big consideration among many Republicans. It’s here to stay.

I’m also heading into the weekend needing a few days of rest. Those hot summer days are here. The news doesn’t stop either. I remember in the old days that when summer came, the news got quiet. Not anymore. The news just keeps on coming.

I guess that’s a good thing. Job security.
