As horrible as the Russian invasion of Ukraine is, I am so impressed with how the world has come together to support Ukraine.

It’s everywhere. I think what got to me the most was that moment at a soccer game in Portugal. A Ukrainian player is brought into the game. Roman Yaremchuk got a standing ovation. He was even given the captain’s armband.

At this moment in time, we are all Ukrainian. I don’t think Vladimir Putin was prepared for that. The world has put him on notice. The sanctions are coming from every direction.

I also don’t think Putin was prepared for the way Ukraine is fighting back. They are taking it to the streets and pushing back. Fox News has video of them preparing Molotov cocktails.

Even his own people are protesting. More than five thousand people have been arrested in Russia since the invasion began.

Former National Security Advisor Lt. General H. R. McMaster told CBS’ Face the Nation, “I think Putin got a lot more than he bargained for. He’s in a difficult position.”

That might be the reason Putin has put his nuclear forces on special alert. While it’s doubtful he would ever use them, it is worrisome. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told Fox News Sunday, “He was always calculating and cold, but this is different. He seems erratic.”

All this opposition may be the reason Russia is willing to negotiate with Ukraine. No breakthroughs are expected, but at least there is some diplomacy happening.

For now, we keep watching. Watching those brave people in Ukraine fight back against a mighty Russian military. The world is watching. We are all Ukrainian.
